Why ‘The Popman’? coronaWell, I like pop music, love it in fact, and also I used to be a popman – that is I used to deliver soft drinks door-to-door in The Potteries and surrounding towns during the eighties.

I dedicate this blog to my eldest son Nathan; he often asked me to write my memoirs, nowadays he is threatening to write them for me!

This will be a completely random series of jottings, stories from the past, thoughts from the present, sometimes just a list of things, the occasional photograph, and random bits of writing that I’ve done over time. Perhaps in a hundred years time a descendant of mine will discover this site and appreciate it! Hope he or she can make some sense of my life, I know I can’t…

I think the first verse of John Lennon‘s ‘In My Life‘ should be sufficient as an introduction to the blog:

There are places I’ll remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some forever, not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All this places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life, I’ve loved them all

  1. Hi. I Don’t know if you can help me. I am trying to find a photo of a champion bakery lorry. my dad worked in the garage there from 1965 to 1981. I spent a lot of time there in the 70s. I’ve managed to find some Mr Kipling photos but nothing on Champion
    Many Thanks

    1. Hi Neil, I don’t have any pictures, I’ve searched the net previously for champion pictures and also mothers pride trent vale where I worked for almost five years, but all in vain, apart from one old mothers pride lorry, see my page called “my first days work”

    1. Hi thank you for the photos. It’s more the era from 1970-1975 that i’m looking for. But still very interesting. Strange thing is i now live on Anglesey. Thank you Neil Cooper
